Since the country is a in a strange place right now and many of us are stuck at home during lockdown, here are my top 5 Netflix crime documentaries you should definitely watch to keep yourself busy:
5) The Pharmacist
This documentary takes us on the journey of the small-town pharmacist, Dan Schneider. In the early 1990’s, his 22-year-old son was murdered during an attempt to buy crack cocaine.
Due to the Police’s slow investigation and little progress towards finding his son’s killer, the local pharmacist decides to take matters into his own hands – which leads to him discovering a national opioid nightmare in the US.
Netflix does a great job at taking you through Mr. Schneider’s investigation and how the heart and determination of a devastated father can lead to such discovery.
This 4-episode mini-series is definitely a one to watch.
4) Abducted in Plain Sight
You may have seen the story of this documentary trending on twitter a couple of years ago. That is due to the crazy twists and turns that take place.
This one-and-a-half-hour documentary tells us about a family’s neighbour who uses his manipulative charm to abduct their young daughter, not once… but twice.
Trust me – you have NEVER heard a story like this one.
3) The Mind of Aaron Hernandez
Aaron Hernandez was an American Footballer who played for the New England Patriots, until he was arrested and convicted for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
The story of how his character developed is tragic and almost difficult to wrap your head around.
In every episode of the 3-part series, there is more shocking news, evidence and turns than you could imagine.
All I can say about this one is; wait for the end!
2) The Confession Killer
Imagine a man, confessing to a crime, and then another crime, and then another…
In the 1980s, Henry Lucas was called America’s most prolific serial killer, after confessing to hundreds of murders.
It is later discovered just how flawed the justice system was, and the impact this man and the media had on it.
This 5-part docu-series shows us how Henry Lucas became the psychotic and gruesome murderer that shocked the world.
This is a documentary that will anger you, shock you and infuriate you.
1) Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich
Everybody knows who Jeffrey Epstein is. Following his death in 2019, Netflix compiled as much horrific and disturbing content as they could on Epstein and his many of his famous friends.
Across 4-episodes, we are taught how Epstein became the egotistical millionaire that he was, how he made such famous and royal friends and why he was so evil and repulsive.
As many of his victims speak up about the sexual assault they experienced by Epstein and his circle, the case against him becomes stronger, even against his wealth.
This is a hard to watch series, and I would like to leave a trigger warning here before you watch it, as it explores sexual assault, rape and other troubling charges.
As one of the most popular Netflix documentaries – this is 100% a must watch.
I would also like to add that Tiger King, Unsolved Mysteries and Making a Murderer are all intriguing and are too good not to watch!
